Google has rolled out this new feature today that provides traffic information of 12 cities in India on the Google Maps. Whenever you visit Google Maps on your desktop or mobile, you can see a Traffic Layer. Two options will be displayed on the Traffic layer that includes Live Traffic and Typical traffic. Live Traffic displays the current traffic updates of all routes on the Google map. Typical traffic doesn’t display the current traffic information but provides you information about a particular city or place that you search for on Google Maps.

For instance, if you select Live traffic on the Traffic layer in Google Maps, all the computers can view the road routes that are mapped out in variant colors. It displays four different colors such as green, orange, red and maroon that indicates the speed levels of traffic on the roads.

Green indicates there is no traffic delay on the road, i.e., the vehicles are moving faster without moving slowly.
Orange indicates a medium amount of traffic on the road.
Red indicates heavier traffic congestion on the Indian roads.
Maroon indicates extremely heavy traffic in which there is no movement of vehicles on the roads.
At any point of time, i.e., at any given day and time, you will be able to see the real-time traffic information on the Google maps. This information that is made available on Google Maps can help people in planning a drive in an easier way. You will get accurate real-time traffic information so that you can estimate your time of arrival. It also provides faster options made available for alternate routes. While in Navigation mode, Google Maps will also use real-time traffic information to more accurately estimate your time of arrival and to provide options for alternate routes if there are faster options available.

“We’re constantly working on making Google Maps a more comprehensive, daily tool for Indians, and we hope that this new real-time traffic information for 12 cities and all national highways will help drivers across the country find the best routes to their destinations with the fewest delays,” said Suren Ruhela, the Director and Program Management at Google.

Today’s launch of traffic information in 12 new cities and all national highways on Google maps is certainly a great effort by Google in the sequence of initiatives to make Google Maps more beneficial for all the mobile Internet users in India.

Google has launched earlier this year a new voice-guided Navigation that gives instructions both in Hindi and Indian accented the English language on Google Maps for mobile. It also provides integration of Indian Railways schedule information within Google Transit.
